Without strategy, execution is aimless. Without execution, strategy is useless.

A great number two never has to be asked twice.

I heard a CEO recently tell someone on their team “once I give you something, I don’t have to think about it again, I just know it’s going to get done“.

Think about how releasing that can be for a leader. Less time spent circling back, checking in or following up and more time spent planning ahead, looking forward and following through.

A great number two doesn’t just do things, they get things done. They turn words, thoughts, ideas and strategy into action.

That isn’t to say they do everything, they simply take responsibility for the outcome.

They can be trusted to get things done, they keep their commitments and they follow through. That’s the kind of person you can lean on, and the one that great leaders often do.

A question to reflect on:
“What systems or support do I need to make sure I’m never asked twice?”
