One of my takeaways from my time at one organisation I was working for was just shortly after I had taken up my role as GM of OD when Shane was invited in to run a values-based coaching session for the entire People and Culture team - at that time a number of about 60. In the space of around a month I went from thinking ‘no never’ to standing up the front of a theatre of over 400 people and talking confidently about my subject matter and responding to unscripted panel questions, all while being on camera! The first time I did that, it felt amazing because I was so pleasantly surprised to realise that I was comfortable and confident in my delivery and had people in the audience thank me and say I was ‘a natural’.
I also realised that by ‘avoiding’ putting myself out there, I had been selling myself short and also not doing my policy work any justice. If you are not in a financial position to invest in this right now then use wisdom and make it a goal to work towards later. If on the other hand it is the result of saying YES to other areas right now that aren’t serving you then that is a different conversation. Consider what you could say ‘no’ to for a season that might enable you to say ‘yes’ to investing in you and your future. What’s the cost of inaction for you? Ordinarily no. But I care about working with people who are willing and ready to do the work. We are selective on who we invite into the group, however sometimes it isn’t a good fit. We’ll work on things for 3 weeks, if you’re not happy then I’ll refund your money and I’ll even let you keep the online curriculum.
The bare minimum would be to attend the weekly coaching call and watch the weekly video (but of course we don’t operate on the bare minimum). Outside of those calls, the investment of your time will be what you make for it. We will help you discover that rhythm and then keep you accountable to that. Ideally you should allow about 2.5hours per week for 10 weeks.
That’s perfectly normal because we aren’t used to investing in ourselves. Remember that an investment in you isn’t just about you. The impact of the best version of you is felt by your team, your business, your family and your friends.
For any event you will receive enough notice to block out the time. Our live coaching calls are recorded and uploaded to the community group for you to access in case you miss them. But your participation in the program matters and we need you in the room, so you’ll need to attend a minimum of 7/10 weeks to stay in the program.
I’m fortunate to know some really clever people. Who will be part of the program is subject to their availability but I can assure you that the value they bring will be world class.
