Privacy
The short version: I keep your contact details if you give them to me, I use them to reply to you and to send you things you’ve asked for, and I never sell them. The longer version is below.
This site is run by Shane Michael Hatton Pty Ltd (44 Lake View Drive, Scoresby, Victoria 3179, Australia). Culture Offsite and Praxis have their own policies on their own sites.
Your name, email address, and anything you choose to tell me, when you use the contact form, subscribe to the newsletter, buy a book, or hand me a business card at an event. An optional phone number if you’d rather I call. That’s it. I don’t harvest data with automated tools, and I don’t build profiles beyond noting how we came to know each other.
To reply to you. To send you the newsletter if you opted in. To let you know about events, programs and writing I think you’d want to hear about. I look at open and click rates in aggregate to see what’s useful and what isn’t.
Contact details are stored in ActiveCampaign, which handles my email list and customer records. Messages from the contact form are delivered by Resend and land in my inbox. The site itself is hosted on Vercel. Each of those providers keeps data under its own security standards and its own privacy policy. Payment details for book orders are handled by the payment provider and never touch this site.
If you’re in the EU or the UK, I only add you to a list through your online opt-in. If I’ve met you in person and you’ve given me a card, I’ll email once to ask you to confirm before you hear from me again.
I don’t sell or share your personal information with third parties, other than the providers above who store it on my behalf, unless the law requires me to.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by emailing contact@shanemhatton.com. I’ll do it, and I’ll tell you when it’s done.
Nothing sent over the internet is completely secure, and I can’t promise otherwise. I use reputable providers, keep access to a minimum, and don’t keep what I don’t need.
